FREE SPEECH...IT'S AMERICAN, IT'S PATRIOTIC, AND IT'S NECESSARY!

Welcome!

My forefathers, as well as others, fought and served for our rights and freedoms and that included the First Amendment right of Free Speech!

Unfortunately, too many of us feel that our individual voices do not matter and will never be heard. As a result, too many people do not Speak Up or Speak Out!

Personally, I have experienced great frustration over how difficult it is, if not how impossible it is, to obtain the most basic of information related to our rights as American Citizens and Laborers.

Therefore, the goal of this website is to inform people and reassure them, through personal accounts, they are not alone in their experiences and need to be heard!

The 12 months of employment are not required to be consecutive in order for the employee to qualify for FMLA leave. The regulations clarify, however, that employment prior to a continuous break in service of seven years or more need not be counted unless the break in service is (1) due to an employee’s fulfillment of military obligations, or (2) governed by a collective bargaining agreement or other written agreement.

Sexual Harassment: US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission~

Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title VII applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and to labor organizations, as well as to the federal government.

Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute sexual harassment when this conduct explicitly or implicitly affects an individual's employment, unreasonably interferes with an individual's work performance, or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment.

Health/Medical Laws:
The EMTALA statute - 42 USC 1395dd, part of the U.S. Code~
Federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act,

Update on the DISCLOSE Act: I now question the validity of this Act as the intent is not clear enough to the public! Aug. 14, 2010
http://www.discloseact.com

Dear Catana,

In January, the Supreme Court strengthened corporations' grip on our government and political process with a dangerous ruling, overturning more than 100 years of election law.

We are part of a group of senators fighting to rein in the increased influence of special interest money this decision will unleash and save our electoral process.

To combat the new, unregulated corporate influence over elections, we just unveiled the DISCLOSE Act -- because Democracy Is Strengthened by Casting Light On Spending in Elections.

But without your support, our legislation is never going to win the day -- we need to build support all around the country, and we need your help to do it.

Click here to go to our website, www.DISCLOSEact.com, and sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of this important legislation!

As President Obama has said, the Supreme Court has given "a green light to a new stampede of special interest money."

But this decision doesn't just affect elections. It has the potential to change the very way we live in America.

Think about it: When you buy toothpaste now, the money you spend can be used directly for television ads attacking people that you believe in without you even knowing.

We have to respond.

We all have to get in this battle, and we all have to fight it from every angle.

Find out more about the DISCLOSE Act at www.DISCLOSEact.com and sign on as a citizen co-sponsor today!

To rein in the new powers the Supreme Court has given corporations to spend unlimited funds to influence elections, we have come up with a package of reforms that should greatly limit the damage:
  • Make CEOs and other leaders take responsibility for their ads by appearing on-camera to deliver the same "I approved this message" disclaimer that political candidates must make.
  • Enhance funding disclosures so the American people can follow the money.
  • Keep foreign countries and entities from determining the outcome of our elections.
  • Alert shareholders and group members to where money goes.
  • Keep taxpayer money from being spent on political ads.
  • Keep special interests from drowning out the voices of the people.
  • Make sure corporations can't "sponsor" a candidate.

If you don't want to see corporations start running away with our elections, then we need you to step up and join us.

Your co-sponsorship will help us pass this crucial bill -- add your name at www.DISCLOSEact.com now!

Thanks for your support -- together, we can do this.

Sincerely,

Chuck Schumer

From pages 5 and 6 of the syllabus:
"While a single Bellotti footnote purported to leave the question open, 435 U. S., at788, n. 26, this Court now concludes that independent expenditures, including those made by corporations, do not give rise to corruption or the appearance of corruption. That speakers may have influence over or access to elected officials does not mean that those officials are corrupt. And the appearance of influence or access will not causethe electorate to lose faith in this democracy."

Dear Catana,

Thank you for telling me what you think about the Supreme Court's recent decision allowing corporations unprecedented new influence over elections.

We got a huge response, and we're still going through all the feedback. But this much is clear: The overwhelming majority was strongly in favor of fixing this problem.

The other day, Rep. Chris Van Hollen and I announced the blueprint for legislation that will help us begin to pick up the pieces -- including several provisions mentioned by members of the ChuckSchumer.com community.

See how we plan to keep corporations from abusing their new right -- check out the plan now and get the word out by sharing it on Facebook!

A lot of people who wrote responses were quick to identify this ruling as a real and immediate threat to our democracy.

We also got a lot of great ideas for how to fix it. Here are a few of those ideas:

No corporation that has government contracts or receives government money should be allowed to contribute to political campaigns or candidates. No foreign entities should be allowed to contribute to a political campaign or candidate.
-- Lisa, Mechanicville, NY
Require the CEO of a [corporation] to appear at the end of any political ad financed in part by a corporation.
-- David, Seattle, WA
[R]equire prior authorization for the corporation to get the approval of its shareholders to engage in campaign financing -- with the position to be taken clearly relayed to the shareholders.
-- Madeleine, Manhattan, NY
Banning pay-to-play, preventing foreign influence, and disclaimers by ad sponsors are all provisions we've included in our proposal.

See the rest of our proposal to restore accountability after the Supreme Court's ruling and see if yours made it in!

If we don't act quickly, the Court's decision will have an immediate and lasting impact on this fall's elections.

Spread the word to your friends on Facebook today and help make sure the American people know what we're doing.

Thank you,

Chuck Schumer

Dear Catana,

You may have heard that the Supreme Court recently granted corporations the right to directly influence political campaigns.

It's a dangerous new ruling that overturns more than 100 years of law and precedent -- and the most dangerous part might be that it gives foreign governments and foreign-controlled corporations a massive loophole through which they can influence the outcome of American elections.

As Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, my Democratic colleagues and I are taking the President's lead and moving to fix this. But Republicans have already shown this is just the latest thing they'll say "no" to.

We are drafting legislation and will be introducing it soon, but first I want to know where you stand -- take a moment to click here and tell me what you think about closing this loophole.

In his State of the Union address last week, President Obama urged Congress to place new restrictions to limit the influence special interests and foreigners have in politics.

And did you see how the crowd reacted when he said that?

On the Democratic side of the aisle, we all stood up to cheer. On the Republican side, everyone sat in silence, glued to their seats.

With the President's support, the Senate Rules Committee and I held a hearing on this issue on Tuesday.

But before we finalize the bill we introduce, I want to know whether people like you are going to sit on your hands with the Republicans or stand up to move this country forward.

Click here to tell me whether you're ready to stand up and help us move forward.

The main thrust of the President's State of the Union speech was about creating jobs, and that's good news. We have to focus on jobs, the economy, and helping middle class families right now.

But keeping special interests and foreigners from gaining undue influence on the process will make that focus possible.

Thank you,

Chuck Schumer

Copy of an e-mail I sent to the White House on January 29, 2010 about the Supreme Courts decision on Coporate/Labor Union Campaign Financing:
The Supreme Courts Decision...
Their decision will absolutely destroy this country, they are traitors for going beyond the law, and those that voted in favor of the corporations should be removed from the bench by Congress as set forth in the United States Constitution...if that document means anything anymore!
I do not know any human being, especially Americans, that are willing to let the Supreme Court put absolute power in the hands of the corporations without absolute backlash...we will NEVER succumb to the corporations!
I have gathered all of the contact information for the Supreme Court of the United States and I am going to begin a massive letter writing campaign to let the Supreme Court Justices know that their actions are criminal, inhuman and Anti-American!
