Bill Collectors:
Many of us have had experiences with bill collectors and their agressive, strong-arm tactics in an attempt to get you to pay a bill ("you must do this"-"you must give us that"-"you must..."-and so on). Personally, the question I hate most is, "how do you live?" Who the hell do they think they are? We once had a person threaten to come to our home to collect a debt! We spoke with the police and filed a complaint against them with the Better Business Bureau. This kind of behavior is very distressing and offensive!!! Paying a bill is not always an option unless, of course, the belief is that people must pay their bills before they eat or pay their rent! Many people simply do not have the money to pay all of their bills, some of them not at all, and, in turn, they are then penalized for their economic condition by adding more to their debt via fees, leins and a bad credit score which is counterproductive to a 'Capitalist' economy. This kind of behavior is nonproductive, offensive, and angering beyond words and should be illegal!

March 4, 2008—Applied for food stamps and approved from 02/25/08 through 07/31/08. They require unemployed applicants, whether someone else in the household is employed or not, to seek employment and prove it through paperwork. In this case, my spouse was applying for disability and was told to provide a letter from his physician stating the same and then he would be released from the obligation to participate in the job search program. A letter was obtained and turned in at the Health and Human Services Office by me.
May 30, 2008—We were kicked from the food stamp program. They said the number of eligible people dropped to two from three because my spouse did not comply with the job search program. However, he did comply with what they asked (a letter stating he had applied for disability) and I turned in the paperwork personally. I filed for a hearing. Our case worker called me and wanted to know why we were filing for a hearing so I told him. He tried to say that the appropriate paperwork had never been turned in. I told him that was impossible as I personally turned the paperwork in to the Health and Human Services office. He was silent. He continued to state that we were in non-compliance and that was that. I had a few choice words to say about who they choose to give services to and told the guy to remove us from the system!!! I hung up. I contacted the free legal service but they told me there was nothing they could do because they were harassing my spouse and his name was not on the paperwork next to mine (both of us applied but my name is the only name shown and up until recently, I had never been in one of their offices, my husband handled it all) and they claimed this is illegal!
June, 2008—My spouse sent a letter of complaint to our local Health and Human Services office about being erroneously kicked from the food stamp program. We received one phone call about the letter but we were not available and we never heard from anyone at that office again!
July 16, 2008—Applied for food stamps again.
July 22, 2008—Spouse interviewed for food stamps. All required paperwork was provided. Spouse was immediately interviewed for the job search program and given all corresponding paperwork.
August 15, 2008—Application for food stamps denied! They claimed that my spouse failed to meet Food Stamp Employment and Supportive Services Training and Work Requirements OR for voluntarily quitting all of his jobs for no good reason. The letter also said we were ineligible to re-apply for 6 to 8 months due to the violation(s). We have all of the corresponding paperwork proving that he met all of the requirements! We believe this was retaliation for writing the letter of complaint (we have since been told that there is no record of any of this in our files or theirs!).
Religious Discrimination By A Local Food Bank:
On Saturday, October 25, 2008, my husband and I went to our local food bank and became victims of religious discrimination. As we watched two full bags of food handed out in front of us, we were handed two flat boxes with handfuls of crackers, two cans (1 in each box) of tuna and two loaves of unleavened bread (find god?)! This was for 4 adults and 1 child. We also watched the people behind us receive two full bags of food. We were told by a food bank worker at the site that the church members took over full control of the food and were NOT allowing anyone who was not a member of the church touch the food. We observed the pastor, Scott, flipping through the book that contains ALL of the information on ALL of the people that have signed up for food, pick out the names of his church members and hand deliver full bag(s) of food and milk, which most people weren't receiving, to them! We had been going to this food bank for 6 months without incident while it was under control of the food bank people and their set of volunteers. This is an ATROCIOUS act! Because we do not attend church, we are not deserving of food? Our son is the one that suffers as a result of this church and its members passing judgment!
We were informed by a person from the food bank that it is not illegal for the churches to discriminate, it is just discouraged.
WE, AS A NATION, NEED TO FEED PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE, NOT JUST CHURCH MEMBERS! | |

Corporations, Small Businesses, & Individuals Doing Business:
AT&T--We signed up for two services with them (basic-no long distance-phone/high speed DSL) in the middle of April and by the end of June, 2009, they had failed to get our order right (deposit vs prepay, shutting off of DSL/Internet service fee/removing long distance). We asked about receiving lifeline phone service (reduced cost basic phone service for low income customers) but they seem to have forgotten that we asked and continue to ask about this! We dealt with multiple representatives and not one of them knew what the other said and changed our order!
UPDATE!--July, 2009--after 28+ calls to customer service, top supervisors, and too many incorrect bills, we switched to Charter Communications to have our phone service handled through them! AT&T WHAT A JOKE!

Fraudulent Home Sale By Dan Paggione!
September 18, 1998—We signed a rent-to-own contract to purchase a 1982 mobile home with Mr. Dan Paggione. The contract stated that we were to receive the title after 8 years. The contract agreement was supposed to be recorded via an audio recording device, per Nevada law, but, conveniently, his tape recorder was "not working” that day.
October, 1998—The county tax assessor showed up at our door stating that the home was going to be auctioned off in three weeks due to non-payment of property tax (on the mobile home itself as it is located in a mobile home park). I immediately called Dan Paggione, told him what happened and he stated he would correct the problem.
November, 1998 through April, 2003—We had multiple visits by the county tax assessor for non-payment of property taxes. I found out from The County Commissioner’s Office that Dan Paggione never put the title to our mobile home in his name, was sued frequently but rarely showed up for court, etc.
May 14, 2003—Received notification that Dan Paggione would no longer have a physical location for paying our rent~ P.O. Box only (illegal under Nevada law)! He would declare payments late due to how infrequently he checked his mail. This is also illegal under Nevada law.
December, 2006—We demanded our title since we fulfilled our contract (he never provided receipts for our rent payments! Again, this is illegal under Nevada law). Dan Paggione said NO and tried to tell us that we owed him around a thousand dollars more and that he would not consider giving us the title until he received the money. We, of course, informed him that we did not owe him any more money and that he better give us the title. Again, he said NO! We began trying to figure out how to deal with this.
March, 2007—We sent a letter of demand to Dan Paggione and told him we would pursue to title through the legal system if he did not give us the title to our mobile home!
April, 2007—We began pursuing the title through the State of Nevada Department Of Business and Industry Manufactured Housing Division. We had to file forms for everything from a copy of the original bill of sale (Dan Paggione’s purchase of the mobile home) to an Affidavit Application For Certificate Of Ownership! We found out that the registered owner of the mobile home was someone else entirely and that Dan Paggione NEVER registered himself as the legal owner! We had to contact the registered owner to try to get a copy of the bill of sale to Dan Paggione but that person never followed through. The representative from the Manufactured Housing division then told us to bypass the first owner and go directly to Dan Paggione for a copy. We sent him a certified letter requesting a copy of the bill of sale and he refused the letter.
October, 2007—The State of Nevada Department Of Business and Industry Manufactured Housing Division issued us the title to our home.
(We found out that it is illegal, in Nevada, to not provide a receipt for rent payments and it is illegal to not have a physical location where rent can be paid. It is also illegal to sell a home for which the selling party does not have the title and never registers the home in their name. We tried to report this as a White Collar Crime but were told we would have to report that type of crime through an attorney...HUH? Just another way to keep poor people from being able to fight the rich! We would have pursued this through legal action, somehow, but I knew Dan Paggione would not show up for court as I had a reliable source that told me he had a history of being taken to court and not showing up!)

This company says any licenced driver in your home, visitor or not, must be put on your auto insurance policy or they can cancel your policy! We took our business to Progressive and they tried the same tactics. However, we spoke with the Insurance Commissioner for the State of Nevada and we were told that there is no state law mandating every licenced driver in your home be covered under your auto insurance policy, it is just something the insurance companies are pulling...to get more money no doubt! We were told to call back if we continued to have problems. We then informed the insurance company of that conversation and the harassment stopped!
Specialty Risk Services (insurance administrator for Hartford, my workers' comp insurance):
This company failed to maintain timely TTD (temporary total disability) payments for my workers' comp. I filed a complaint against them with the Division of Industrial Relations for the State of Nevada and they were found to be in violation! | |
